I need a new laptop!

Post by Midas on Thu Apr 15, 2010 11:31 pm

My laptop recently crashed and I really need a new one. I spend a lot of time on my computer (not only for playing MM2 lol!) and I need to think about it before buying something!

I found this laptop. The brand is XXODD and they are made in the Netherlands. It's customizable: I can choose with or without OS, which processor I want etc.

What do you think about these specifications and the price?

Model: XXODD XNi760cuh
Price: € 864.00 Rolling Eyes
Screen: 15.6" widescreen HD+ TFT-screen
HD+ resolution 1600x900 (not sure if this resolution is ok to play MM2? But 100 pixels more in height and 320 pixels more in width than my old screen!)
Processor: Intel Core i3 330M (i5 and i7 possible)
Chipset: Intel HM55
RAM: 4GB DDR3 Smile (I have 2GB now)
Hard disk: 160GB 5400RPM Serial-ATA (this is ok, same as old laptop and I've got an external hard disk of 1000GB anyway)
Optical disk: DVD +/- dual layer burner
In/Out ports:
3x USB2.0 connector
eSATA port
HDMI connection
VGA connection
SP/DIF digital out
Headphones/line out
Microphone in
Ethernet RJ45
Express Card 54 slot
Input devices: Isolated keyboard with separated numpad
Warranty: 2 years of carry-in warranty
Extra: 2.0 megapixel webcam
OS: none (I've got a Windows XP cd)
Dimensions: 374mm x 256mm x 25mm/37.9mm
Weight: 2.7kg (my old laptop 3kg!)

Is this good? What could be better? And what do you think about the quality?

Oh and the website is xxodd.nl.

_About price, its not very expensive..i think Rolling Eyes
_About resolution, i think you can customizate it, or the pc itself will adjust the game screen like my does (has pretty nice graphics when it does it)
_RAM is good.
Well, for that price (in portugal thats cheap) i think its kinda good pc, but im not a pro in computer specs, so, my oppinion is not a great thing Very Happy

Well, specs look good, although I would buy a well-known brand such as ASUS

Or maybe try to find something with a Blu Ray Drive.

My father's ASUS failed after 5 years, which is not so bad..

Indeed king

The problem is that I want a laptop without OS, and I only found XXODD that makes these. Neutral

Windows 7 is the same crap as Vista. And if I use XP my RAM has much more effect, because XP is more simple than Windows 7.

I did the same with my old Medion, but the problem is that not all drivers work properly with XP. A not working webcam and running driver programs that keep crashing etc. Evil or Very Mad
I want to be sure that the PC I buy not only works with Windows 7 Rolling Eyes, so that it's made for other operating systems too...

Oh and the website is xxodd.nl.

1. As i already said you at school: there are still a lot of problems with the i3, i5, and i7 processors.
2. 15 Inch is a bit small, take 17"
3. I tried to play mm2 on a wide screen ones and notices that it just stretches and doesnt have any option to keep the properties right.
4. Probably your XP CD will be x86, so it doesnt support more than 3GB of RAM so you wont be able to extend your RAM memory
5. Get a mac and just install windows on it if you are freaked on windows that hard! But at least you are sure you have a good laptop then!!

Few recommendations:
*CLICK*
Dual Core 2,2 GhZ
4 GB RAM
AMD Chipset
18,4"
16:9 widescreen
320GB SATA HD
Built-in 0,3MP Camera
Azerty Keyboard Rolling Eyes
Wireless Internet (N, so its up to 50 meters if i remember well!)
4 USB's
HDMI+VGA
Windows7 x64 Hoe Premium (Windows7 is way better than Vista and XP, but linux and mac are still the best xD)
2,5 hours of battery power
4,5 KG
2 years garantee
I think the only bad thing about this laptop is that it's widescreen, but i think i already know a way to force the game to keep the right properties.

This one is also very good: *CLICK*

Good idea, 'cause as I already said, laptops aren't made to be turned on for a very long time.
If you want to wait until there's a special action in a shop or something for a good computer, I have 2 desktop computers standing here wich you can use temporay if you like. 1,7 and 2,2 Ghz Desktops.
